Seven Sisters

Seven Sisters, on the south cost, has been on my landscape photography bucket list for a long time. It is one of the most iconic places to visit, with Birling Gap apparently being the most popular National Trust site in the UK. I’m not usually drawn to the classic Instagram photo spots that draw in the crowds, but I thought that this one would definitely be worth a visit.

We ended up here for the weekend when my wife surprised me with a short trip away for fathers day, which was completely unexpected. It is actually only two hours from where we live in Basingstoke, so we packed up an overnight bag first thing on Saturday morning and got down there for mid-day. In total we managed to squeeze in the walk from Birling Gap to Beachy Head on Saturday afternoon, explore Eastbourne that night, and then get across to Cuckmore Haven on Sunday. It was absolutely fantastic and I will definitely be back!

I managed to get quite a variety of images, from the classic Coastguard Cottages scene, to some more intimate pictures down by the beach. Coastal photography is one of my favourite subjects and I am always thinking of new ways to keep it interesting. My favourite photo from the series was shot at 90mm, f4, throwing the classic chalk cliffs and foreground out of focus, with the main subject being the crashing, foamy waves - it felt to me, a more honest take on the feeling of the beach.
