Harris on Hold

My big Scotland road-trip… something I had been planning for months - Glencoe, Skye, Lewis and then … I fall down a kerb in a car park, snapping the ligaments in my ankle… Harris is on hold.

Our family trip to Scotland was somewhat less adventurous than expected this summer. About half way through our holiday, I rolled my ankle in a carpark on Harris - I immediately knew that the rest of my plans would have to wait as i was carried off to hospital. At this stage, we were about as far as you can get from home without a passport - I had driven about 1,000 miles and my wife would end up having to drive the next 1,000 miles. I felt completely gutted for the family over the next week or so; although we could still get out and have a look around, the fantastic hikes that I had planned were now firmly cancelled and my photographic ambitions were in ruins.

Fast forward a few weeks and I am sitting in my home office (my domain for the next few months as I recover), contemplating my next steps. My slightly over dramatic side has calmed down and the negativity that I experienced for the first few weeks is fading away. I am learning to look at the positive side of my situation - my conclusion is that just because I cant get out there and take photos daily, doesn’t mean that I cant push my photographic journey forward. I have largely used the opportunity to concentrate on the business side of photography, opening my Etsy shop to sell my prints, watching countless videos on photography business, updating my website, reaching out to new clients… the list goes on. Life is full of unexpected events that we don’t se coming; the key is to look for the positives in every situation and leverage whatever you can to your advantage.

It is unclear at this point how long I will be out of action but absence is definitely making my heart grow fonder - I cant wait to get back out there and start shooting again, Until then, here are some of the images I took from the first half of our road-trip.
